2023 Dutton Cellars Vermentino

VINEYARD

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Carneros lies the legendary Las Brisas Vineyard, a cherished gem under the stewardship of the revered Mahoney family. With a legacy rooted in pioneering Italian varietals, such as the enchanting Vermentino, this vineyard paints a timeless tale of viticultural mastery and passion. Perched upon a western-facing slope, it embraces the cool breezes drifting in from the San Pablo Bay. Here, amidst rolling hills and sun-kissed vines, every sip of wine whispers secrets of the land and the Mahoney family's enduring dedication to their craft.

WINEMAKING

The fruit from Las Brisas was harvested on October 18th, 2023. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and settled into stainless steel tanks for 48 hours. The juice was racked into neutral French oak barrels, along with the light lees in each barrel for added mouthfeel and complexity. The barrels underwent a moderate temperature controlled fermentation, capturing the natural citrus flavors of the vineyard and using the neutral French oak to compliment the vibrant acid profile of this wine. The wine underwent partial natural malolactic fermentation during primary fermentation. Once primary fermentation was complete, secondary fermentation was halted to enhance the vibrancy of the wine.
